Feral pigeons roost and nest on sheltered ledges, under solar panels, in roof voids and on balconies. Herring gulls and other large gulls nest on flat roofs and chimney stacks, and can become noisy and defensive during the breeding season from spring into summer.
All wild birds are protected under the Wildlife Acts, so bird control in Ireland means humane deterrence and proofing, not harm. The right fix depends on the species, the structure and how the birds use it. That is why every job starts with a survey.
What to look for
- Droppings building up on ledges, sills, balconies or below rooflines
- Nesting material in gutters, under solar panels or around chimneys
- Cooing, scratching or squawking from the roof, especially at dawn
- Blocked gutters and downpipes, or damp patches below them
- Gulls swooping at people near the building in early summer

The cost of leaving birds settled
Bird droppings are acidic and eat into stone, render, paint and metal. Combined with nesting debris they block gutters and cause damp. Droppings also harbour fungi and bacteria linked to respiratory illness, and fouled walkways are a slip hazard for staff and customers.
Birds are site-loyal. The longer a colony uses a building, the harder it is to move on, so early action makes the job simpler.
How we deal with it
Site survey
We identify the species, count roosting and nesting points, and note access, heights and any listed or sensitive features.
Recommendation
A clear, costed proposal, which might be netting, spikes, post-and-wire, solar panel mesh or a combination, with photos of each area.
Clean & install
Fouled areas are cleaned and sanitised first, then deterrents are fitted neatly and discreetly by our trained team, using access equipment where needed.
Aftercare
We check that birds have moved on and can provide scheduled inspections and maintenance for commercial sites.
Keeping it from coming back
- Never feed pigeons or gulls near your property.
- Keep bins closed and food waste secured, particularly in commercial yards.
- Mesh around solar panels before pigeons start nesting under them.
- Act before spring. Nests with eggs or chicks must not be disturbed.
